Cooking up your self development

Life is like cooking, where everyone has different ingredients available.

Some people have better ingredients than others but ultimately your cooking skill defines whether the dish will be tasty.

Minimalists preach that they are happy with eating basic dishes like plain rice.

Other people try to get rich to be able to afford better ingredients and better ingredients generally also taste better. But over-salted food doesn’t taste good, no matter the quality of ingredients.

“Privilege” is basically having better ingredients from the start.

Self-help books are like cook books, that try to give you a recipe for a better life. This is all good but if you lack the ingredients, even the best cook book won’t help you. You need to find the cook books that show you how to prepare dishes with what you personally have available.

More ingredients also means that you can choose from a variety of dished which leaves you with the agony of choice and sometimes with indecisiveness.
